Day 2 in the Olympic Village/Opening Ceremonies

My day started at 5:00 a.m. today, as I had a 6:00 shift in the village...luckily it's only about a 20 minutes skytrain ride...whenever you check in for a shift, you receive a sticker, and every time you collect 3 stickers, you get a gift...today was my third shift, so I received a nice lttle pin...they also give you a food voucher, and today I was lucky enough to receive both a breakfast and lunch voucher - there are two choices for food - the daily specials or if those aren't to your liking, there's alway McDonalds...so far I've had each once.

We tracked down two athletes today...and was in one of the apartments that face the mountains, the Russian exhibit, and the little harbour...gorgeous view!!!  I would have loved to have taken a picture, but didn't think the athlete would have thought me too professional doing that!!!  I also got to spend some time in the athlete's dining room as one of my athlete's decided to go for breakfast before heading to the doping control room (they have up to an hour to report).  While in the dining hall I saw Kevin Martin (skip for Team Canada Curling) and Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison (Pairs figure skating)

In the evening we headed over to BC Place for the dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremonies...I'm not going to give anything away, but trust me, you will definitely enjoy it...I thought it was lovely and very Canadian...the one thing I will say is that I can only imagine what the energy will be like on Friday night - tonight they marched in the countries and use volunteers as the athletes and when Canada came in everyone in the building went crazy...and they weren't even really Team Canada!!!!!!!!!  One of the most fun things was that all the headline entertainment were actually there performing...but you'll just have to wait to find out exactly who they were...

Below are some pics that I took in the village - the Russian Exhibit promoting the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, the building where the Brits are staying in, and the athlete entertainment centre.

I have the next couple of days off so I'm hoping to check out the torch relay and scout around for a good place to watch the Opening Ceremonies...they have a bunch of sites set up downtown with big screens and entertainment so it should be fun to watch from one of those...
